MoonDurational perfomance
12.08.2024
Fletcher, RISD
2 hours

I use a camera to film myself reading a text this morning.
I read the same text in the place you are in.
I follow the reading pace in the film I took of myself.
I am not allowed to make mouth sounds.

I will read the changing of moon phase on December 8, 2001 to 2024.
Every 29.5 minutes, I will stop reading to rest.
If I stop at Spring Tide, I stretch out.
If I stop at Neap Tide, I curl up.

A complete lunar cycle takes approximately 29.5 days.
The moon moves 1 degree every two hours.
Spring Tide occurs during the full and new moon phase.
Neap Tide occurs during the first and quarters of the moon phase.

The body on-site will try to follow the video (or not) but without making any sound, only mouth movements. Every 29.5 minutes, it will stop reading and take a rest, as the video will continuously play on the wall. The overall duration is decided by the exact exhibition time. Viewers are free to browse my reading text.

The very first question I am trying to ask the viewer is: As what you see in front of you, which body is mine? Based on the concept of Peripersonal Space (PPS), I am going to find the clues of the dynamic that exists within the body, sensory, and the specific space & time, as well as how spatial continuity would affect our sense of the external world.

Living within a female body in a multidimensional world, to what degree, her body could disappear and become a referent? When performative language is mute, what you hear and see here, is the constative one that is speaking in silence. The space, the cosmos, is witnessing.
